I always make these easy-peasy puff pastry sticks with raw ham when I have to do it quickly and still want it to be a little more creative than chips. ;-)
You need exactly 4 ingredients and an oven. The result can be seen and tasted and can be done in no time.
I almost always have raw ham in the fridge and I can whip it up into something delicious in no time.
This is what you need for approx. 42 sticks:
approx. 100 g raw ham
1 rectangular puff pastry (25 x 42 cm)
3-4 tbsp sour cream or crème fraîche
3-4 tablespoons Gruyère or other grated cheese
That's how it's done:
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees (bottom and top heat)
Place the puff pastry in front of you with the long side down and cut it in half horizontally
Then cut strips about 2 cm wide from top to bottom and spread the entire dough with the sour cream - I use a tablespoon
Now tear the raw ham into pieces about 2-3 cm wide and make sure that the length and width fit on the puff pastry strips
The pieces of raw ham don't have to look nice because the sticks of puff pastry are still being twisted and you can no longer see these details afterwards.
Now sprinkle the grated cheese over it as evenly as possible
Now take both ends of the puff pastry strips and twist them in the opposite direction
Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper, leaving enough space between them
Bake the puff pastry sticks for about 10 minutes or until they are lightly browned and the dough is baked enough
Let the puff pastry sticks cool down a little and then remove them from the tray with tongs and place them on a wooden board, a plate or in another container for serving - enjoy your meal!
The puff pastry sticks taste best fresh out of the oven while still warm.
